Purpose

ISM4ITALY (Infrastructure For Sustainable Mobility) is a PPP (Public Private Partenrship) established in the context of the Italian Recovery Fund (PNRR) to strenght the Italian Innovation in aerospace establishing a Research Infrastructure, a technological innovation hub connecting Milan and Turin through the collaboration between Politecnico di Torino and TXT. The project aims to develop a distributed technological infrastructure across Milan and Turin to support research and innovation in the aerospace industry.
The goal is to develop advanced technologies, fostering knowledge transfer and innovative solutions for the aeronautical and aerospace markets, directly impacting improvements in training, flight simulations, and autonomous drone systems. The infrastructure will enable the development of cutting-edge solutions for the aerospace world and bring together diverse expertise to transform research into tangible market-ready products.

Project at a glance

The ISM4ITALY project, funded with 4 million euros through a call by Politecnico di Torino and co-funded by TXT Group and Politecnico via the PNRR Mission 4 funds, creates an innovative technological infrastructure distributed between Milan (TXT Group) and Turin (Politecnico).
Three innovative labs will be established here: XR Lab for extended reality training, SimLab for flight simulations, and DroneLab for research on autonomous systems and drone swarms. This ecosystem will enable the development of concrete and innovative solutions for the aerospace sector, strengthening Italy’s competitiveness at the European level.
The technological infrastructure will become a benchmark for research and innovation in aerospace, fostering collaboration between universities, industry, and research centers.

Objectives

During 2025, ISM4ITALY will focus on significant refurbishment and restructuring of the Milan and Turin sites, aiming to create modern, technologically advanced environments to host future activities.
This phase involves the installation of next-generation flight simulators, extended reality tools, advanced modeling and simulation systems, as well as platforms for researchers.
The installation of these technologies will be accompanied by infrastructure interventions designed to ensure maximum operational efficiency and safety of the spaces.

The official inauguration of the facility is planned by the end of 2025, marking the transition from the setup phase to full operational status.
Starting in 2026, the laboratories will be fully active and dedicated to developing innovative solutions, promoting a strong link between experimental activities, applied research, and collaboration among industrial and academic partners.
This infrastructure will become a reference point for the Italian aerospace supply chain, capable of hosting cutting-edge projects and facilitating technology transfer to the market.

TXT role

TXT’s role is to transform ideas and research into concrete, market-applicable technological solutions, ensuring a direct connection between innovation and the real needs of the aerospace industry.
Furthermore, TXT actively contributes to defining usage scenarios and testing developed technologies, fostering collaboration with Politecnico di Torino and other partners to accelerate technology transfer and support sector competitiveness.
