PURPOSE

Real-time simulations are widely recognized as a means to support the validation process of systems and procedures up to the highest levels of operational readiness and are therefore widely used to support V3 validation campaigns in the SESAR context.

With the development of new airspace users and new air traffic management (ATM) concepts in recent years and those planned for the near future (e.g., U-Space, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM)), V&V processes have become increasingly complex, with increasing demands on the infrastructure to validate these concepts and operational conditions.

More widespread interoperability among specialized simulators could support the need for improved ATM V&V infrastructure to demonstrate achievement of validation goals related to future European ATM concepts.

PROJECT AT A GLANCE

In this context, the VISORS (Validation Infrastructure SuppOrting Remote Simulations, 2024-2027, ID No. 101167000) project aims to support wide deployment of interoperability standards among ATM validation platforms.

It plans to conduct an economic analysis of the execution of validation processes for ATM/AAM/U-space interoperability concepts and solutions through a multi-site validation architecture. The simulation facilities of the different project partners will be connected through a prototype platform to develop state-of-the-art interoperability solutions. VISORS is funded by the SESAR3 Joint Undertaking program under powers delegated by the European Commission.

The project sees TXT collaborating with relevant players in the aerospace landscape such as DLR (German aerospace center), DFS (German air traffic control center), C.I.R.A. (Italian Aerospace Research Center) and NLR (aerospace center of the Netherlands).

TXT ROLE

The activities carried out by TXT are in the context of writing the Operational Service and Environment Definition (OSED) document, which outlines the operational service and environment in which the VISORS solution is intended to be deployed in distributed/federated real-time simulations in the ATM/UTM context. The document includes descriptions of the use cases, operational, human performance and security requirements.

TXT will coordinate the definition of the security (cybersecurity) requirements within the OSED based on threat analysis and risk assessment. The security requirements will be used for the implementation and validation of simulations and real-time distributed services.
